Crazy for Carnelian

Regardless of the season, there is one makeup look that we see time and time again at Fashion Week: monochromatic makeup. The appeal of a minimalist, monochromatic makeup look, for designers, is that the focus is kept on the fashion. The appeal of a monochromatic makeup look for all you Authentic Beauties out there is that it keeps the focus on your features rather than your makeup; it is both wearable and timeless; it warms the face and softens facial features; and can be easily transitioned from day to evening wear.

This season, the monochromatic makeup look is being done widely in shades of peach. Peachy lids, cheeks, and lips, when worn together create a very fresh, youthful glow. Not only does a look like this keep the focus on your fashion choices (perfect to pair with the more bold patterns and textures being shown this season), but choosing colors that are already present in the skin tone allows your beautiful features to take center stage.Peachy makeup is almost universally flattering, but especially lovely on blue-eyed beauties. The warmth of  peachy shadow creates an amazing contrast against blue eyes. If peach is not a color that speaks to your authentic self, try using neutral shades of taupe for the eyes, cheeks, and lips alike.

Designers like Marc by Marc Jacobs, Rodarte, Chloe, Matthew Williamson, Giambattista Valli, YSL, Balmain, Prada, and Issac Mizrahi all showed their own versions of monochromatic makeup looks during Fall Fashion Week 2011.
Mizrahi cited 1990′s supermodels as inspiration for the “creme caramel” lip color shown on the runway during his Fall ’11 show.
While this particular color choice is very 1990′s inspired, there is also an element of 1980′s color blocking going on. Blocked color is another huge trend we have seen for the past season or two- this trend is more obviously seen on the runways, with bold color choices shown in blocks.

Want to try the peachy monochromatic look at home?

Begin with foundation to even out your skin tone. Fill in your brows with your perfect shade of Wonderbrow to frame the eyes. Next, press Sandalwood ($15) onto the lids with a Chisel Deluxe Fluff ($12.50) shadow brush. Using a tapered crease brush, contour the crease of the eye with Foxy ($15), and highlight the brow bone with Barely Peach ($15). To really brighten up your eyes, line your waterlines with a White pencil ($13) and add tons of black mascara.  Smile and apply Foxy ($15) to the apples of your cheeks. Line lips softly with a Ginger pencil ($13) and top with Get Lippy! Peach gloss ($23) or Bellisimo ($16.50) to add a touch of warm gold shimmer.

GaGa For Garnet

The BOLD lip has been a recurring theme over the last few seasons. Last season, it was all about the orange lip (recall The Starlet) and the honeysuckle pink lip (recall The Prima).

This season, however, we are seeing a return to the boldness that comes from a wine-stained lip.
Designers including Oscar de la Renta, Missoni and Custo Barcelona all showed versions of a wine lip, ranging from a barely-there pinot noir (a la Carolina Herrera) to a deeply saturated bordeaux like the lips shown on the Gucci and Lela Rose runway. Whether it is a soft pinot lip you’re thirsting for or only the deepest reds will suit your taste, we’ve got you covered at Authentic Beauty.

When wearing a bold lip, it’s imperative to even out the skin tone with foundation first, as these deep lip colors tend to accentuate any redness in the skin. Once you’ve achieved complexion perfection, apply your choice of lip color. When working with a bold lip color, it’s best to begin with the lip color so you don’t overdo the rest of the face. Achieving balance is what it is all about.

For this particular look, dab Wine lipstick ($15.50) along the lip, blot and reapply. Skip the lip liner since this look is supposed to be a tad imprecise.

When wearing this season’s bold lip colors, it’s essential the brow be a little strong in order to achieve a balanced look. Comb brows into place and fill in with your perfect shade of Wonderbrow ($15) to exaggerate your natural arch.

Next, use a flesh-toned matte shade like Bisque ($15) all over the lids and brow bones.

To achieve a classic winged liner, mix Black Onyx shadow ($15) with Eyeliner Sealer ($10.75) and apply along the top lash lines, winging it out slightly at the outer corners.

For a little extra eye-brightening, apply White pencil ($15) to the waterlines. This makes the whites of your eyes appear larger, creating a wide-awake look even if you’ve had very little sleep!

Finally, instead of reaching for your usual blush, take a neutral shade like Taupe or Arizona ($15) and shade below the cheekbones to give a chiseled look.

As part of National Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month, this  past Friday, September 2, 2011, was National Teal Day – which encourages women to wear teal to increase awareness about the disease.

“Wearing teal clothes, hats, jewelry or even nail polish can spark a conversation about ovarian cancer,” Ronni Arno Blaisdell, Director of Communications and Public Outreach for the National Ovarian Cancer Coalition‘s (NOCC), told Genconnect. (where this information was sourced from)

The NOCC urges everyone to T.E.A.L:  Take Early Action & Live!”

The NOCC is committed to improving the survival rate and quality of life for women with ovarian cancer, a disease that claims 15,000 lives annually in the U.S. In honor of awareness month, they have partnered with the “Dr . Oz  Show” to present the “Dr. Oz Break the Silence on Ovarian Cancer” campaign, which works to assess ovarian cancer risk factors and offer screenings to women who show increased risk.

“We stress awareness because ovarian cancer cases diagnosed in earlier stages show survival rates of up to ninety percent while cases diagnosed in late stages show a thirty percent survival rate,” Blaisdell says. “That’s a big difference.”

Ovarian cancer is often referred to as the “silent killer” because ovarian cancer symptoms are few and often mimic those of many other illnesses. Symptoms include bloating, pelvic or abdominal pain, difficulty eating or feeling full quickly and urgent or frequent urinary symptoms. There also may be no symptoms present in the early stages.

Authentic Beauty is honored to be a part of two events to help support the Atlanta Community in their fight to bring awareness about Ovarian Cancer, raise money for research and empower the Survivors.

Each year SEGO hosts “Cancer Survivor’s Day”. This annual event celebrates the lives of all patients in treatment and those living beyond their treatment for gynecologic cancers.

This year SEGO celebrates “You are Beautiful Because”.

SEGO We Care Foundation is a not-for-profit organization providing support and educational programs infusing empowerment and encouragement to the gynecologic cancer patient and their caregivers.

The mission of the SEGO – We Care Foundation is to provide support programs addressing all aspects of the gynecologic cancer patient including empowering women and their caregivers with knowledge and support on the journey through and beyond treatment for gynecologic cancer as well as educate the medical community of comprehensive and leading-state-of-the-art information regarding screening, surgical procedures and treatment of gynecologic cancers.

The SEGO – We Care Foundation serves the patient population of Southeastern Gynecologic Oncology. SEGO is one of the largest and most complete treatment facilities for gynecologic oncology.

Alyson was asked to speak at the Valentines Day Hug Yourself Event.  The event was inspirational for all who attended. Alyson is looking forward to spreading the message of Authentic Beauty to this community.
