Authentic Beauty’s Holiday Gift Guide

It happens every year. You get all your gifts for the people who tell you what they want, but about a week before the big holiday, you still have a few stragglers you need to buy gifts for. Well that or sometimes you put off your holiday shopping until the last minute (like me) & you end up not wanting to deal with the crowds at the mall.  Whatever your reason, the girls of Authentic Beauty & I have come up with our top ten gifts this season.

1) An Image Journey. No matter how old you are, it’s very important to feel comfortable in your own skin & in the make-up you are wearing. Give the gift of an Image Journey to the woman who wants to make 2011 her year to shine.

2) Stephanie Anderson, our fabulous go to girl here at Authentic Beauty is also a personal chef who gives cooking lessons. She was featured in Daily Candy in 2009. If your diet consists of drive through & Campbell’s soup, you definitely want to book your lesson today!

3) I have talked about our 3 in 1 foundation in almost every blog I have written about looks, so it’s a no brainer. The 3 in 1 foundation is perfect for every look under the sun & Karen (everyone else too) thinks it also needs to be in your make-up bag. We sell this magic here at Authentic Beauty & online. This foundation is great for covering uneven pigmentation plus gives a silky feel & stays in place all day! Sounds great to us.

4) On that note, keeping your skin flawless is sooo important, so Amy Schultz, our skin esthetician suggests Amala's hydrating yogurt mask is the perfect gift for this time of year. Most people are suffering from dry, chapped or uncomfortably taut skin and this will hydrate, moisturize and give the skin a nice glow!

5) And if you’re suffering from pesky breakouts or you have super sensitive skin that flares up from any heavy moisturizers, try Elana’s favorite, the Ansr Beam. You can zap zits fast and reduce redness and skin discoloration.

6) If this time of the stresses you out & your face doesn’t break out, thank the beauty goddesses. But maybe you feel tension & stress. Sloane makes an awesome Detox Muscle Soak that has been popular to relax your tight muscles.  Check it out at www.atlantabodyretreat.com.

7) Going back to the 3 in 1 foundation, we know it lasts all night! You want to make sure all your make-up lasts & lasts especially when you’re ringing in 2011. Make sure to pack the Live it Up lipgloss (Sloane’s favorite) & LIVE IT UP on New Year’s Eve!

8) Treat your tresses right in 2011. No more abuse, hair abuse that is. So pop into the Authentic Beauty Salon & try out a Keratin Express or a Keratin Treatment by Hollie. You’ll have silky, shiny tresses.

9) Speaking of hair, we love the environmentally friendly hair color by Authentic Beauty colorist, Charles Farlow. Treat your mom or your sister to this sweet treat.

10) So we’ve talked about a lot of gifts good for females. So gift the guy in your life to dinner or drinks at our new favorite hotspot in Sandy Springs- {three} sheets. Amazing cocktails, yummy bites & fabulous atmosphere, relax at {three} sheets after work or late into the night.

Holiday Look #3: Santa Baby

"Santa Baby"

Holiday Look #3: Santa Baby

A few hazards of being in Atlanta during the holiday season: Traffic, freezing weather ie- rain, snow, sleet, more traffic, static electricity, road rage; you get the picture. So in between the screaming at your fill in the blank [boss, kid, husband, friend, mother etc.], you realize you need a pick me up. That, my darlings is the Santa Baby look. This warm, bronzy smoky eye with a glossy, lush red lip is perfect for going from work to that holiday party, or really anywhere during the holiday season. It also ensures that even though you are frustrated & running around like a wild woman, you look well rested & incredibly radiant.

It’s super important to play up the eyes & lips, and leave cheeks radiant with a natural-looking shimmer. First, the key component: eyes. Apply Malted Ice eyeshadow all over your eyelid, put Pecan eyeshadow in the crease, and Espresso eyeshadow in the outer corner. Apply the Spark Shimmer powder below the eyebrow and in inner corners for a little extra sparkle that will make your eyes pop & open up the face. Use brown and black eyeliner mixed together on the top and bottom lashlines (only 2/3 of the way in on lower lashline). Lastly, lightly apply Malted Ice shadow below the lower lashline as well.

If you are wearing this look to a soiree, as always, I would have Robyn do eyelash extensions for you or simply curl your lashes, add a coat of mascara, let that dry & curl them again. To intensify this look, glue a strip of false eyelashes or just add a few falsies to the ends of your eyes.

Of course, you should use our 3 in 1 foundation to cover up imperfections and keep skin flawless & smooth. Keep cheeks subtle with a light dusting of Shimmering Sandstone, a bronzy rose, on the apples of your cheeks. For the other essential part of this look, the lips use Espresso liner with Scarlet, Racy Red, or Chili lipstick- depending on skin tone-[check with me or another artist] topped with Urge to Splurge gloss. This look can be worn well after the holidays, so please let me know if you would like a lesson. Come stop by & see me or book an appointment with me online. Holiday 2010 Make-up Look #1-Sugar Plum Fairy

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas: Holiday Look #1 2010-Sugar Plum Fairy

The Atlanta winter weather outside may be frightful, but you & the fire can be soooo delightful. Case in point, even though the weather is awful outside, you can still be the hit of your next holiday party with the four holiday make-up looks from Authentic Beauty. The holiday party season is not the time to go minimal on your make-up. With that in mind, the Authentic Beauty team & I crafted four amazing looks that are right in line with the fall & winter 2010 trends, but have that extra added oomph for the glittery holiday season that starts this weekend! Let the parties begin!

The best party looks focus on the bold eyes & lips, and the Sugar Plum Fairy look is no different. We will see a plummy smoky eye with long, lush lashes. This smoky eye is a twist on the smoky eye trend of the fall & winter 2010 make-up trends. To achieve this look, we use a brown pencil blended out at the upper lashline with a Squirrel Precision Blender brush, topped with Moondust shadow. We then follow this with a smoky plum shadow in the crease of the eyelid, and with liner sealer on top lashline, and a pencil on lower lashline. I always find that a plum smoky eye is bold like a typical smoky eye, but a little different than the norm. Obviously I am a huge fan of the Lash Extensions by Robyn we offer at Authentic Beauty, and totally suggest getting lash extensions if you want to add a little more drama to your overall look. But if you are looking for a more party temporary route, I suggest curling your lashes, swiping on some thickening & lengthening mascara (we like Blinc), letting that dry & curling your lashes again. If you can, stop by Authentic Beauty & let us put on some false eyelashes on the outer corners of your eyes for that extra drama.

As with all make-up looks, we want the skin to be smooth & even. Since it’s winter, I do not suggest a spray tan or using much, if any bronzer. Now I know you don’t want to look sickly pale, but the Snookie look is best left during the summer months when a tan is nothing new. Just focus on smooth, clear, flawless skin. If you have time, schedule an appointment with Amy for a facial to blast away those blemishes caused from holiday stress. But if not, just moisturize well & use our 3 in 1 foundation to cover up anything that’s not normally supposed to be there. Top your foundation with our Dusty Rose blush with will emit a soft, pink glow. The purple/berry lip & eye will balance out the dusty rose color. If you go any darker on the cheek, the colors will start to run together.

Finally for the lip on the Sugar Plum Fairy look, I like a bold plum/burgundy, glossy lip. Wine lipstick with Showstopper gloss on top is spot on to finish off this look. The Sugar Plum Fairy Look goes best with unfussy, relaxed, wavy hair & a hot LBD.  This foxy look will have your man with sugar plum fairies dancing in his head.
