17 Years of Authentic Beauty & The Moment You See Yourself Again

Collage celebrating 17 years of Authentic Beauty, an Atlanta studio and salon specializing in brows, makeup, and self-discovery. Includes interior shots of the salon, a woman smiling at her desk, the salon’s pink front door, and its street sign reading ‘Authentic Beauty Studio & Salon.’ Text on the image says ‘17 Years of Authentic Beauty’ and ‘Atlanta’s Destination for the Best in Brows, Makeup, and Self-Discovery.

Today, we celebrate 17 years of Authentic Beauty Makeup Salon & Brow Studio in Atlanta.

Seventeen years of faces and stories. Of laughter, of transformation, of women rediscovering themselves in the mirror. Seventeen years of brows that became confidence, of makeup that became self-expression, of conversations that became connection, and of generations of women learning to be the authors of their own image.

Alyson Hoag, founder of Authentic Beauty in Atlanta, explains her Balanced Brow Philosophy by demonstrating ideal brow shape on a model’s photo. At her award-winning salon, she has rescued and restored thousands of brows with her precision tweezing method.

To every client who has walked through our doors, thank you. You are the reason this space exists. You are the reason it is still here.

For 17 years, you have trusted us with your reflection. You have let us share in your milestones, your weddings, your new chapters, evolutions, your reinventions, and your quiet new beginnings. You have allowed us to walk beside you through every season.

As I look back on all of it, I realize that this anniversary is not just about how long we have been here. It is about why. Because every woman, myself included, eventually reaches a point where she looks in the mirror and wonders, Where did I go?

And that is where The Image Journey begins. To celebrate 17 years of helping women find their way back to themselves, I am giving you something special.

As our anniversary gift to you, enjoy 17% off The Image Journey with me through Black Friday.

Where Makeup Meets Meaning

Seventeen years ago, before I founded Authentic Beauty, I had the same realization that so many women who sit in my chair share with me today.

I was a professional makeup artist, successful by every standard. My work was flawless. But one day, I looked in the mirror and did not recognize myself.

“My reflection did not look like me anymore,” I remember thinking. “And that terrified me.”

That moment changed everything.

Around that time, a client gave me a copy of Something More: Excavating Your Authentic Self by Sarah Ban Breathnach, the author of Simple Abundance and the woman who taught Oprah about gratitude. I did not know it then, but that book would completely reconfigure my life.

Reading Something More felt like holding a mirror up to my soul. Sarah’s words gave language to what I was feeling — that my outer image no longer reflected my inner self, and that something deeper was asking to be seen. Her writing invited me to slow down, reflect, and begin the work of rediscovery.

I started collecting images I found that reflected who I was feeling in my soul. And they were images of women with blonde hair! At the time, I had long, red, curly hair (for those of you who didn’t know I am naturally a red head. Read more about that journey here). Regardless, that simple act of pulling images and creating something that felt like me reconnected me to myself.

In time, I would have the incredible privilege of meeting Sarah Ban Breathnach and calling her my mentor. But before that, she was my lifeline. Her words became the quiet invitation that led me back to myself. Learn more about Sarah’s work at www.simpleabundance.com.

From that awakening, The Image Journey was born. Read more about The Image Journey in an article from the Atlanta Jewish Times here.

The Image Journey With Aly

The Image Journey is a 2.5-hour, one-on-one makeup experience that I personally lead at Authentic Beauty Makeup Salon & Brow Studio.

It begins with a conversation about who you are now. Not who you were. Not who the world expects you to be. Together, we start by creating a vision board that captures your energy, your season of life, and how you want to be seen.

From there, we translate your vision into simple, easily replicable makeup looks that will inspire you. You will feel at home in your reflection and perhaps even find joy and a sense of play.

You will leave the Image Journey experience with a custom face chart, step-by-step guidance, and a free follow-up session to make sure your new look feels effortless and that you can do it yourself. But more importantly, you will leave with something you cannot buy — that quiet, emotional moment of recognition when you look in the mirror and whisper, “There I am.”

A Journey of Rediscovery

I often say, “The Image Journey is not about changing how you look. It is about changing how you see.” It is not a makeover or a typical makeup lesson. It is a reintroduction.

It is what Sarah Ban Breathnach called “the authentic self, the soul made visible.” It carries the same spirit that Julia Cameron describes in her work — the idea of taking yourself on an artist date to rediscover curiosity, wonder, and the parts of yourself that have been waiting for you to return.

A Thank You From My Heart

Seventeen years later, Authentic Beauty is still the place where women come not to change who they are, but to give yourself the gift of your own attention

I have shaped more than 100,000 brows, guided thousands through The Image Journey, and created a community of women from their teens to their 90s who understand that beauty does not fade. It evolves.

I have sat with women in every chapter through fresh starts, joyful milestones, and reinventions. Because beauty does not only belong to celebration. It belongs to healing too.It is part of how we find our footing again and how we remember who we are.

So here is to 17 years of Authentic Beauty. To gratitude, to growth, and to the joy of seeing yourself again. And to every woman who has ever sat in my chair, thank you for letting me be part of your reflection.

Because beauty happens when who you are and what you see align and when the reflection matches the woman you are.
