The Understudy

The Understudy

The Understudy look is all about clean, contoured simplicity. This look was being shown with many of the resort collections this season, because it really goes with anything, from bright bold color to soft, blush and neutral shades. Many designers cited “Brooke Shields as a teenager” as inspiration, with her famously full brows and sculpted cheeks. We saw tons of looks similar to The Understudy on the runways during this past NYC Fashion Week; namely on the runways of the designers Rebecca Minkoff, Jenni Kayne, Michael Kors & Philip Lim.

Clean, strong brows, contoured cheekbones and a fresh face really define this look. Use a spooley brush to groom brows & define them with your perfect shade of Wonderbrow brow gel. Press a shimmery nude shadow onto the lid. I suggest our Exposed Shimmer Pot or eye shadow in Sheer Sand. Then, mix eyeliner sealer and dark brown eye shadow such as Bark together to create a liquid liner, and apply along upper lash line, and wing out slightly in the outer corners. For a more work appropriate look, skip the wing or just run a brown pencil over the lash line. Curl your lashes & brush on our Blinc mascara in Dark Brown or Black.

Even out skin tone and cover blemishes with our 3 in 1 foundation & skip the powder. To make your cheekbones look chiseled, make a fish face & use an angled brush to contour below the cheekbone with a neutral blush color (I like Sandalwood for a soft contour). Be sure to always blend your contour out with a kabuki brush to soften (My favorite is the aDesign Flat Top Foundation Kabuki.). Line and fill in your lips using an earth-tone lip pencil (use Mocha or Sand lip liner) and top this with a fleshy nude gloss like So Coco or Work Your Magic, for a polished glow.
