The real skinny on brows
Like I said in my Piedmont Review column in my article about brows, I have a hard time watching TV. It’s not the programming & it’s not the reality shows. It’s the eyebrows on beautiful women on TV-eyebrows too thin, eyebrows waxed half off, brows that travel straight across with no arch, or the surprised and Vulcan-shaped brows that project unintended communications. A quote that I believe & frequently repeat is, “If the eyes are the windows to your soul, then your eyebrows are the curtains.”
That quote is the truth! If your eyebrows are not in balance with your face, then all the time & money you spend on your skin, make-up and other enhancements is going to waste. Your eyebrows can make you like tired, surprised, sad, angry and a myriad of other expressions if they are not sculpted to balance your features So here are some of my key guidelines to take into consideration.
- Understand that your face has angles. Your brows need to be sculpted according to those angles. It is not about hair removal.
- The color of your brows must a half to a whole shade darker than your hair. And with the same or similar undertone. Dying the eyebrows is a simple process which makes all the difference in the world
- If your brows have been over plucked, over threaded or over waxed they will need to be enticed into growing again. Using a product to stimulate growth will help. I recommend getting them on a growth cycle which means absolutely NO TOUCHING for 4-5 weeks. Let them get on a regular growth cycle. Only pluck once every 4-5 weeks NO plucking in between. Over the past 15+ years that I have been doing brows this is the method that produces the best result. I have several hundred clients who have grown their brows back from nothing but you have to be committed to the process. There are no guarantees how soon they will grow just that they will.
- What I discovered recently is that the teaching manual for esthetics is WRONG. They line the angles for brows on the wrong part which is why so many women walk around with the wrong shaped brows.
Please read my article from the Piedmont Review which will give you a greater understanding about where I am coming from about brows. If you didn’t know I was written up in Allure Magazine as the Best in Brows in Atlanta 2010.
