THE MAKEUP & FASHION FORECAST FOR FALL 2013: WHAT INSPIRED US
On the Fall runways this year, the makeup was more wearable than in seasons past. Larger than life was replaced with more classical and less dramatic applications. Makeup trends ran the gamut from au natural to punk and beautifully bold.
Red reigned supreme and lips were red and glossy at Marc Jacobs, wine-hued at Louis Vuitton, bold with Zac Posen and classic red at Luisa Beccaria. On the eyes and lids, makeup artists used a bevy of unexpected colors including burgundy and a lovely purple hue at Nanette Lepore.
Jason Wu, Gucci, Altuzarra, and Thakoon all featured a colorful smokey eye for Fall, and we fell in love with a deep metallic burgundy on the eye lids for this look. It is unexpected and understated, as compared with the standard black & silver smokey eye that we traditionally see for Fall and throughout the holidays.
Pretty in Punk? A punk-inspired look was seen at Marc Jacobs, Roberto Cavalli, Rebecca Taylor, Saint Laurent. Our gray smoky eye with a khaki-green base is wearable without being too dark for day.
At Ralph Lauren, BCBG, Helmut Lang, Chloe, Valentino, and many more, a minimalist makeup look was key to letting their fall clothing lines speak for themselves by letting one’s natural beauty shine through the face.
One of the biggest highlights was the brilliant debut of a bold burgundy-chocolatey-red lip with gold accents on the eye at fashion houses like Zac Posen, Vera Wang, Alice + Olivia, Marni, and Bottega Venetta, amongst others.
