America the Beautiful movie viewing
I’m so thrilled to announce that next Thursday, Sept. 23, Studio Movie Grill in Roswell will be hosting a viewing party of the PG-13 version of the movie, America the Beautiful for free! Brought to us in partnership with Atlanta Girl Magazine and sponsored by Remuda Ranch, the event starts at 6:30 p.m with a reception preceding the movie showing. Following the movie there will be a Q & A with Daryl Roberts. He has recently partnered with Remuda Ranch Eating Disorder Facility in California to tour the movie around the U.S.
As I have shared with many of you either in the studio or around town, this movie is incredibly moving & profound, and exposes root causes and effects that buying into an unrealistic standard of beauty has on women & young girls in America. I love this movie & think every young girl & her mom & dad should watch it-especially now that the movie will be in Atlanta (Roswell) next week for FREE, (thank you Remuda Ranch for sponsoring this event). I will be there with my daughter & want to invite all my Authentic Beauties out to also see the movie.

The documentary is about our obsession with beauty. This film was created by Darryl Roberts (a MAN) who saw not only others he was surrounded by were being affected by the beauty industries’ insane standard, but that he was too. He was in a relationship with a woman who he dearly loved & because of all the all media hype around the ideal image, he dumped her because well….he thought she wasn’t up to the “normal” standard. After he realized he was being a bit irrational & that he loved her, he embarked on a journey to discover why we are so crazy about our exterior. Out of this, came America the Beautiful. He examined how the beauty industry damages a child’s perception of beauty as well as men & women’s perceptions. He also examines the toxicity of make-up & other beauty products, plastic surgery, make-up in history, the diet industry & he documents a model’s fall from grace from when she started when she was 12-years-old & was all over the catwalk to when she got older & “bigger.
I literally stumbled upon this movie by accident & I am so thankful that I did. It was about two years ago when I did my first photo shoot for Jezebel Magazine & I was super nervous about how it came out. I was trying to see it online before the magazine came out & accidentally went to www.jezebel.com instead of www.jezebelmagazine.com. Jezebel.com had a trailer for America the Beautiful & I was intrigued, so I watched it. I was literally mesmerized by the movie. It was right up my alley, so I did my due diligence in tracking down Darryl. Darryl came to Atlanta one week before my studio opened in October 2008 & was on Good Day Atlanta & CNN. It was such an incredible experience to have met Darryl! I was so thrilled that he came to Atlanta & that he is coming to Atlanta next week!
