Blue Velvet: A Spring Makeup Tutorial from Authentic Beauty

Blue eyeshadow was everywhere on the Spring 2017 runways, but it’s a tough look to pull off successfully in the real world.

The artists at Leitmotiv played with blue in a very cohesive way: A clean stripe of royal blue was drawn along the eye creases of every model, in a solid line. At Ports 1961, we also saw cohesion. A brighter shade of periwinkle blue was applied to the models’ lids and pulled to the upper corner of the crease to create an almost cat eye effect.

At Christian Siriano the makeup artists took a similar tactic, although the blue eyeshadow was more sky blue, and the outer corner was extended slightly. There were also quite a few models sporting blue eyeshadow on the Victoria Beckham catwalk. Vanessa Seward’s models stood out, with a risky pairing of blue eyeshadow and red lips.

Our goal at Authentic Beauty is to keep you looking modern while incorporating trends without being trendy. Nowhere is this more true than the blue eyeshadow trend. The days of wearing full blue lids are gone. As Aly is fond of saying, “If you wore it the first time around, you probably shouldn’t wear it a second time.”

Our take on incorporating this hot trend is simple– line the eyes in blue for a super wearable version. We love the unexpected pop of color that keeps everyday makeup looking fresh.

From our Spring 2017 Seasonal Looks Makeup Collection, Belle Epoque, Blue Velvet ensures every woman can rock the blue eye colors that were the runway rage this season. Pair navy liner with a seductive bronze smoky and nude lip to make it everyday wearable.

Spring Makeup Tutorial: Blue Velvet

To achieve my take on this season’s trend, I  chose to start with a bronze smoky eye. Use our Liquid Shimmer eyeshadow in Stellar on your lid. Wait for it to dry, and blend with a Chisel Deluxe Fluff brush.

Add a bronze shadow on top of the Stellar to achieve extra depth and staying power. Gold or Bronzite are the best choices for achieving this look. Have your makeup artist choose the color that’s best for you!

Under your brow, use our Matte Beige Brow Highlighter stick to leave the area under the brow clean and bright. It’s the very best way to achieve this! You also can apply a bit of Clean Shine Mineral Highlight face powder on top to make sure the texture stays smooth.

Apply our amazing waterproof Adore Gel Eyeliner pencil on your bottom lash line, and set it with Bronzite.

On the top lash line, add a pop of color with our Voyage Waterproof Gel Pencil, which is a beautiful navy blue.

To complete the eyes, add our Blinc Lash Primer and Blinc Amplified Mascara in black.

The skin finish is luminous and sculpted. Use our Coola Mineral Veil as primer and apply our Magic 3-in-1 Foundation for additional coverage where desired. Use Sally B’s loose powder to set the foundation and create a smooth, velvety finish.

Next, add our Dual Bronzer to contour and sculpt your cheeks and our NEW Illuminator to add that golden highlight just above the brow bone. This Illuminator is amazing. You must try it!

On your lips, add a bit of our custom lip gloss called FRESH. This beautiful coral peach color is absolutely perfect and has just enough color to look nude but not look brown. Finish your lips with a soft lip line using our new lip pencil in CoCo. We just added it to our line, and it looks outstanding on everyone!
